Jhoota Hi Sahi - A Review

Cast - John Abraham, Pakhi Tyrewala, Manasi Scott, Raghu Ram
Direction - Abbas Tyrewala
Duration - 2 hours 30 minutes

I wasn’t expecting anything special from the movie anyways. But still I was disappointed with the movie, this, itself tells how below par the movie must have been.

The story is not really about friends (forget being based on Friends). It is a silly love-story of Sid (short for Siddharth) (John Abraham) falling in love with a heartbroken girl, Mishka (Pakhi Tyerwala). But Fidato, who helps Mishka from not committing suicide through a suicide helpline service (DOST), becomes Mishka’s best friend and he is no one else but Sid. Now Sid and Fidato lie, lie and lie some more. The movie is about how love manages to survive in such hostile lack of honesty.

First of all, the story is very weak (I don’t know what makes the TOI critics think otherwise). The screenplay is amateurish. The direction is poor (particularly compared to ‘jaane tu…’). I have never expected John to excel in the acting department. He manages well to showcase primary emotions, but otherwise he is very ordinary (or even worse). Though, a group of girls, sitting in my row, did scream “I love you John.” They screamed so loud that I couldn’t hear the dialogues till a couple of minutes later. That couple of minutes were blissful! The dialogues are so not-special that at some times it was painful to see the unimaginative power of the dialogue writer. For a weak script like this one, only good lines can make the magic happen. So there was no magic whatsoever.

The most painful part of the movie was Pakhi Tyrewala. She’s there only because she is Abbas Tyrewala’s wife. Firstly, she looks old (especially in close-ups). Secondly, she looks more than plump. And, thirdly, she makes John look a better actor. She wasn’t even efficient enough to lip-sync properly for the songs. Also she is a terrible dancer (worse than John). She also wrote this junk story. Though, she does have beautiful legs.

The lyrics were totally unimpressive, and so was the music (I wonder how the song ‘Call Me Dil’ managed to find a place in the Limca book of records for being repeated 360 times on listener’s request in one day). Also, the movie seems to have opted out for not having stylist, because the dresses worn could have been so much better.

R. Madhavan features in a guest appearance. His talent has not been sufficiently used. Many people don't know but the movie features the voices of Ritesh Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan and Imran Khan. Well, its not worth knowing.

On and on, I regret going to the movie. Even though when I went to the movie I said "agar kuch nahi toh ‘Jhoota hi sahi’ hi sahi", I won’t think on those lines ever again.

My Ratings – 2 / 5
My Recommendations – Avoid it. May be you can afford to watch it on T.V. than watching soaps.
